Question Which DIY-comp?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone...

I'm really excited and nervous as this is my first thread and post.

(I have already made a search, but didn't come up with any useful results.)

I'm planning to get myself a new compressor pedal, but before I storm out to the store, I'd like to give myself a try to build one according to some DIY-plans on the web. I have found only three plans up to this point: the DOD 280, the MXR Dynacomp and the Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer.

I'm leaning towards the MXR, but I'd like to know what you think of this. Do you have any other better ideas? Is a tube-compressor-plan available anywhere or is that out of the question?

Thanks in advance and best wishes...

Try this site for DIY. They also have a great FAQ board with very knowledgeable people.

Thanks a lot...

Checked it out and it's really useful. I think I'm going that way. ;-)

FWIW, the Ross and the Dynacomp are very similar circuits. So far it seems like the best way to mod them for bass is to increase the value of the output capacitor. For bass mods to the Orange Squeezer, check out Tonepad.com. And here's a good project: http://www.muzique.com/ssm2166.htm

You don't want to try a tube DIY until you have some more experience under your belt anyway, but if you seriously want a more advanced project you could try these:

http://www.celestial.com.au/~rosswoo...p/optocomp.htm

also, somewhere on the web is the "WHAT" compressor, a really good DIY supposedly, but I can't find the link right now.

Speaking of What, here's my pedal version of it which has some mods.... and sounds excellent IMO.

Very very cool! ...and through your page here's the "What" page (scroll to the very bottom for the schema):
