What features do you want from it?

The usual. 2 outputs 1 input. high mid low and level. I need it to be passive because i have all active basses.

When you say "high mid low and level", that's exclusively something you'd find on an active preamp type of DI. EQ is not standard on any "usual" DI, and EQ and level controls are never found on any passive DI.

If you actually really want a passive DI (which don't be so sure, just because you have an active bass does not mean you need a passive DI) then there are some great and fairly easy plans on the Jensen transformer website. They also have an active DI schematic IIRC, but it has no EQ or level control.

If you really want a preamp pedal/box that has EQ and gain controls, then that's what you need to look for--not a DI, and again certainly not a passive one.

I don't know off the top of my head where to look for schematics for an EQ/preamp, but try diystompboxes.com, geofex.com, diyaudio.com, and other DIY sites.

BTW I know it can be confusing since there are so many pedals on the market which call themselves DI's: Sansamp BDDI, MXR M80, Sadowsky, Aggie, and so on. But the fact is they are more like preamps which include a DI output, no matter what convenience label the manufacturer gives them.

Well said. If you were to go down the active preamp route, Dave Hall's new preamps have everything you need. What's the problem with playing an active bass into a passive DI/preamp?
