Lightbulb DIY Distortion wo/ Pedal

Sign in to disble this ad
What you need:
1 Bass (since this is a bass forum =)
1 Patch cable (1' - 3')
1 Regular Instrument cable
1 Power strip
2 Bass amps

-Plug your bass into the amp that gets less use
-Crank up all the knobs (or just the volume and gain, and leave the tone knobs as is)
-Send the signal from the overdriven amp with the patch cable into the other amp
-The first amp plays the part of a distortion pedal

I don't have a bass pedal and put what I already have to use (I also heard this is what the Kinks guitarist used to get his sound). But the sound I'm getting is closer to Acid King

--I have yet to do this with two guitar amps, but a PA into Guitar Head Does Not work (it could be cool for a section, but I wouldn't use that for a whole song... At least the combo I have isn't worth it). I have to get back my "practice" amp to see if that sounds decent.

They also stuck knitting needles in the speakers and slashed the cones with razor blades, according to interviews.

RCRollins - Errrm No. I already have a mediocre amp and a Noice amp (both work fine)... and a bunch of cables lying around... but no pedals to speak of. And I like the thick Doom/Sludge tone I'm getting now. Besides amps are heavier than pedals anyway =D

TimmyDX - Well no ****... who would of thought of putting old equipment to... Boob Enlargement?
