Just wondering if anyone out there has some ideas on which pedal(s) would be good for achieving this type of bass sound... thanks

A Boss OC-2 with the -1octave solo'd (no dry signal) going into a Moog Lowpass filter (or other lowpass filter with exp/cv input), controlling the filter with an expression pedal.

This will get you very close, but some kind of dirt in between the OC-2 and Lowpass will get the rest of the way there-- I find the Prunes&Custard to be ideal for that tone. The dirt is necessary to give the filter more harmonic content to work with and make the filter sweeps more audible (like in the clip), otherwise the filter sweeping would be a bit less noticeable. A harsher fuzz can work but will sound a little .. harsher under the filter.

The Pollyanna octaver is a fuzz'd octave that would be great as well, and you'd only need the lowpass filter with it, no extra pedals needed for the dirt/harmonic content.

Here are two clips from last year using the OC-2 + Prunes&Custard + Moog Lowpass; the first is from an old jam, and the 2nd from another 'how to -tone' thread:

And one more old cheesy loopstation jam, using the Pollyanna + MoogLPF; there isn't much filter movement but you can hear the jist of the tone from those two pedals-- Im pretty sure at some point there was some flange in there as well, but it should get the point across:

Thanks for the great advice and even greater audio samples! Are there many alternatives to a Moog LPF? What about WMD Super Fatman... do you think it could handle the job?

Keep an eye on this thread, one of our users is making a Moog alternative in a small enclosure:

Moog Moogerfooger MF 101 Lowpass Filter alternative?

I had the original WMD Fatman for a while, although I sold it as ultimately, I wanted a filter I could control with an expression pedal. Looks like the Super Fatman can do this though. However, the Fatman is wicked for sub-bass 'womp!' jungle sounds with the envelope filter in lowpass mode, so I recommend it.

Also, if you're into D&B, another type of sound you may be interested in is this:

That's a Supercollider (although any Muff fuzz or similar would do) into a 442 Red / Boomstick Bottom Feeder envelope filter.

Really cool samples. I have to mess around with mine a little more, me thinks!

The Fatmen are cool filters, but I wouldn't recommend them as the only or main filter in a synth setup; it uses a different type of circuit closer the Mutron/Qtron/funky-filter variety, and does not have as even response and nice combiness found in filters like the MoogLPF and I feel pretty confident in my assumption that Conical Johnson's filter fits into this category with the Moog as well. SuperFatman is a nice filter, but I'd wait until you had something like the Moog, Conical's filter, Photron, etc if anything.

There are alternatives to the Moog that are of a similar type of filter and sound, but most are more expensive. The only similarly priced and possibly cheaper one that I can think of would be Conical Johnsons filter, though I have no experience with it myself.

Cool vid, anyone know what the expression pedal is controlling? I'm kinda new to this whole synth deal but I'd guess the LFO rate.

@ fighthepower, do you have any more recordings of the Pollyanna? How low does it "track?" What I've heard of it sounds amazing.
