Do I need something special to merge two signals into one?

Sign in to disble this ad
I would like to split my signal and use guitar effects on my highs, keep my lows unaffected except maybe a chorus, and then merge the signal back together and into my amp. Can I use a regular radio shack type splitter to merge my signals back together, or is there a better way to do it?

Also, if anyone sees anything that won't work, could be done better, or if you have had a negative experience with any of these pedals(see pic below), please let me know.

well, i wouldn't run a chorus on just my lows, but, that said, this could work. and to merge the signals... use another Big Shot AB-Y, backwards. says you can in the manual!

Thanks!
As for the chorus, I wasn't planning on using it only on the lows, although I didn't make that clear in the OP.(My fault) I don't plan on having any effects on my lows when my signal is split. The only reason that I put the chorus in that side of the chain was to keep me from accidently switching it on while using the other effects.

Thanks for pointing that out though, I would like to find any problems before I go and buy all the pedals.

don't use a splitter. what you need is a mini-mixer. some looper pedals have the ability to do this.

use a y cable to split an audio signal into 2. never use it the other way around. basically, what you'll have is 2 outputs plugged into each other, which can be a very bad thing. also, the output impedance of one will mess with the other.

do it properly & get a device with a mixer in it

I was afraid of that.
Luckily I have a small peavey mixer that can do the job.
(I don't know why I didn't think of it before)

Ideally you wouldn't split signals passively either (Y-cable). But, it'll work well enough for you to work out if it's something you want to pursue further.

Looks like a job for the LS-2.

bass => sonic stomp => ls-2 (loop A: guitar effects, loop B: bass effects) => amp

You wouldn't even need the Radial anymore. The ls-2, in A+B mode, behaves like a splitter+mixer in one.

I have thought about the LS-2, but I don't know how easy it would be to switch between "A", "B", and "A+B" since it only has one button. I don't like having to double tap because of some bad experiences with other pedals. It is noticably cheaper though, so I think I will try one out before I decide.

Thanks everyone for the advice so far.

That's the one limitation of the ls-2. You have to decide which of the 5 modes you're going to use: A/off, B/off, A/B/off, A=>B/off, A+B/off.
