Personally whenever I hear ANY bass riff with phaser on it I immediately think of "Stranglehold". In general that's a bad thing as far I'm concerned (which is one reason that I don't use phaser), but that Moog does have some pretty nifty sounds coming from it.

...Luke, you do not yet realize your tone. You have only begun to discover your upper mids. Join my band "The Dark Side", and I will complete your Pedaltrain. With our combined wattage, we can end this distorting feedback and bring order to the gig.

Luke: I'll never join your band!

Darth Vader: If you only knew the power of the Digital Switching Amps... Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your phaser.

Luke: He told me enough! He told me you spilled beer on it, killed it!

Darth Vader: No. I designed your phaser.

Luke: No. No. That's not true bypass. That's buffered!

Darth Vader: Search your jfets, you know it to be true bypass!

Luke: No! Mosfet! No!

Can't help you decide about YOUR needs.... but, I've had my MXR EVH Phase 90 on my pedalboards since it was bought many, many years ago. Huge pedalboard, the phase stays; tiny 3 pedal board, the phase stays. I love it & use it often, tho' it rarely gets turned up past 10 o'clock.

And I too, also enjoy my phaser with some dirt, POG, & envelope filter all at the same time playing power chords!

I vote YES. Find a cheap orange box & flip it if you don't dig it...

Personally, I don't like the phaser sound so much as flanger. Flanger just seems to work better with bass, from my limited experience. Or at least what my wallet could afford.
Agreed. Phasers always seem to make my basslines indistinct from everything else in a mix, whereas a flanger leaves my bassline intact while only affecting the area 'around' my line... if that makes any sense lol.

This is what it's come down to for me over the years also. Love how phasers sound, but unless you're playing really upbeat the tracking doesn't seem to grab and hold the notes as well as a flanger which holds them out longer it seems. I have a Boss BF-2B and it's a great piece.

Of course! Everyone needs one of everything. Crazy ars sounds with different combos. I personally like the Boss PH-3.
