"Do-Nothing Box": a basic electronic theory question

Sign in to disble this ad
if i was to build a box that simply went input jack -> output jack with nothing in between, how would i wire it? would it be hot-to-hot and ground-to-ground?

Yes.

Edit: Wait, this is a trick question. If there's "nothing in between", then you don't wire it at all!

haha if you insist.

i'm making a killbox, so i'm going ghettostyle and making a do nothing box, interrupting it with an SPST switch.

I would just drill holes in both sides and slide the cable through them

That won't sound good without silver wires & silver solder.

Make sure you put a couple dummy knobs and switches that are wired to nothing on it... that way, when someone complains about your tone, flip a switch and twirl a knob, and they're instantly happy.

Perfect. Especially if someone tells you to turn down.

Why not at least make a TB loop box, that way if you ever wanted to use it as something else you could? If you want to use it as a mute, then just don't plug anything into the loop. At least then you could either use it also as a loop, or tuner mute.

But, to answer your question, yes, just solder them together, and be prepared for pops. There are other bypass options out there that will help alleviate the popping.

Three dummy knobs and a killswitch, the perfect "producer pedal".

So you want this to cut your signal?

If you want to be even more ghetto, try this: take one of your existing pedals and set the balance, gain, level, etc to 0. I do this with my Boss ODB-3 sometimes.
