DOD Buffer

So anyways, I have an FX12 tuna which is completely worthless for it's intended function. But seeing as how it is buffered (at least I think so) and can mute the signal I might just use it at the end of my chain for now to drive long cables and mute whenever. Your thoughts?

I was about to make a bad fish joke, but I looked up the pedal and it's actually named the FX12 Tuna...

IME sometimes DOD buffers are fine and sometimes they're crap. But that's moot if you want a better tuner, cause you should just get a better tuner.

Your signal is only as good as your last buffer

Or so I've heard anyway

Try it, see how you like the sound.

My brother owns a recording studio and used to have a sealed can of tuna around at all times on the off chance someone asked 'can you pass me the tuner?' In the end it got eaten by a drunken bandmate at 3am.

My DOD pedals have always bypassed fine. They're basic transistor buffers... very similar to Boss and Ibanez. Should work fine-- just don't bother with it if anything else in your chain is buffered.

DOD buffers span the range from from crap, to average, to great. Test yours with a good pair of headphones to find out how it is with this specific pedal.

How do I test it? Just listen for noise? None of my other pedals are buffered so I figured I might as well. I will be getting another tuner, but probably not before next week when I need it so it doesn't matter really.

Just play with the pedal while it's switched off, then take it out of your chain and try again. If you notice your signal is degraded with it in there, obviouslt don't use it!

Hmm... with the addition of the MXR Classic Overdrive I bought 2/3 of the pedals I am using now have a crap bypass. How much would moving the buffer around help?
