DOD FX 25B Problem

Sign in to disble this ad
My DOD FX 25B developed some sort of intermitent problem, seometimes when bypassed after use it seems like it is not "bypassing" properly, 95% of the volume of the clean sound is gone, what left is a faint and distorted sound when the strings are hit hard enough. Sometimes the clean sound gradually comes back, but most of the time this faint and distorted sound stays on. And re-enagaing the pedal again the effected sound comes back, bypassing again the problem comes back.

I have tried all sorts of things I could do, like placing it at different locations in the effects loop, use a battery, banging it a few times.............

Has anyone experienced this before? Any idea what the problem is? Any advice? and would it be a quick and easy fix that can be DIY?

Thanks a lot

The switch was poor-quality to begin with, and now it is dirty or failing. The easy thing to try first is to disassemble the switch and clean it with contact cleaner like Caig's--that will fix it in most cases. If cleaning it doesn't fix it, then your next best option would be to have a DIY-pedal guy convert the pedal to "true bypass" with an all-new switching mechanism. FWIW that may cost more than the pedal did. Another option is to put the pedal in the loop of an external true-bypass loop box.

Are you running it on a battery? If so, you might need a new one.
