DOD FX25-B Modification

Sign in to disble this ad
I've heard tale about modifying the DOD FX25-B to have a fatter lowend and less volume drop, but for the life of me I cannot find information on what to change. I saw a post on the reviews on harmony central that claims one of the resistors should be changed and another part should be changed but it isn't clear what the second part should actually be.

Does anyone know what to swap out in the pedal to increase its fatness?

I know how to work on electronics so you are not putting this information in the hands of an unskilled worker.

Thanks!

I Googled for mods for the FX25B last week; after about 1 1/2 hours I found nothing

I found this on the harmony central reviews of the fx25-b

"To mod replace R5 (20K) with 6K2 (this is the Wah input)
and R39 (10K) with 3k (this is the dry sound to blend pot)"

What's a 6K2?

i know how to work on gear but i'm lacking a decent multimeter right now and don't really have the time to futz around with finding the parts that need to change to do this or that... but i'm getting really tempted to buy that book that the indieguitarist guy or whoever sells...

r0ck!

6k2 means 6.2 Kohm resistor. This is a type of short hand often used in schematic writing to ensure that decimal points don't go unnoticed. To give another example 2k2 would refer to a 2.2 kohm resistor.

Thanks, sir. I have not seen that method of writing values before!

just replaced the resistors, i will post after practice tomorrow about how it sounds. i used what i had around so i used a 3.9k and a 6.8k (scuse me, 3k9 and 6k8! i kinda dig that.) so we shall see... either way it's a pretty big change for each resistor.

volume drop is the only complaint I have with my fx25-b. so if this mod has helped with that at all, i am all ears.

'bump' the thread to the top of the list so it will hopefully get some views and get his question answered.

I tried this to mine a while ago...didn't get good results. Waiting for your results.....waiting, waiting, waiting...

Someone should try putting some trim pots in these positions. Maybe 10k and 5k would would work well?

I can't seem to ever sell this pedal when I want to, and for some reason, I can't seem to keep it off my board! Though I think it works great in live setting when you thrown the oc-2 behind it, by itself it's only good for living room jams. Even then the drop in bass frequencies bugs the hell out of me. I need some kind of rehab for this pedal...or if this mod works...

I think you should try the MXR M82. I can get the FX25B vibe out of it...but without any of the "issues" that you described. The M82 replaced the FX25B on my pedalboard.

Funk,
Aside from the volume drop and the less than perfect bypass tone, I'm frustrated by the quality of the effected tone.
Are you saying that one could get the down right booty-licious funk stylings of a FX25 with a clean signal as well (not sure if the M82 effected tone is more hi-fi or if this can only be accomplished by mixing in the direct signal)

The clips on You Tube are cool, but mostly bass wanking and no R&B grooves with a band or drum machine (that I can find)

Lastly, how do it funk against a Mutron? TIA

So.. has anyone tried this yet? Results?? I've got one, but replaced it with a Micro Qtron that I love. Sounds more clear, and has a bit of a volume boost rather than drop. BUT if I can make the DOD pedal more useful, I'd love too
