'Evening. Narrowing down auto-wah options. Tried the Ibanex AW7 today and was pleasantly surprised. Maybe would've bought if the darn thing wasn't so drab-looking. The Maxon AF-9, Snow White, EBS BassIQ and new MXR Bass enveloppe are still in the running for that coveted spot (?!?!?) on my board.
Been reading a bit about the DOD pedal recently. Major faults according to some (volume loss, tough to get sweet spot, el-cheapo built) and major kudo according to other (sound is unique and yeah, there's the Flea connection).
Have any of you used this pedal ? Thoughts ?

I love the older non-B version, but I also freely acknowledge that in some ways it's a poorly-made pain in the butt. Think of it this way: a used FX25B is like $35. If you don't like it, sell it for what you paid. No biggie. |

Try to find an older 2 knob version. They are much, much better. |

Ulltimately i did not, but i was able to sell it for what i bought it for, as bongo said. You'll probably love it or hate it, so buy one and see. |

This has helped me a lot in deciding. Pedal seems to be a lot of trouble and probably worth it, which is the vicious part of it. But I just won't go through the trouble of buying the DOD, then a limiter, then have the DOD modded, then go through my playing's adjustment to fit the damn thing (I ain't got that much chops to adjust anyway !!!) and then praying I've gone through all this process and be happy. Looks like I ain't gonna be Flea :-)
Thx Fitz, Fantod and Bongo. I also found Bongo's page on enveloppe filters, so that also helped .

I'm able to even out the effect volume to the bypassed volume...the FX25B has a sound I can't seem to duplicate with other units. I can get close, that's it. Nothing "hiccups" like them.

When it sweeps down to the bass range it seems like to me that the volume kind of spikes disproportionally compared to the rest of the sweep. Other than that it sounds good, for what it is. I just never really found it to be very useful in the "real world" Its just kind of a silly sounding novelty effect to me.
Some people just love them though.

| | | | i love mine. its the fx25b newer version and it has a permanent place on my board. like most pedals you need to play with it to get the sounds you want to hear and see if those sounds are the ones you want. |

Blend:all the way down.Sensitivity:around four o'clock to maximum.Range:Around 12-3 o'clock.
To me,really worth it.only 50 $ and I can get the amazing unique sound + I think its the cheapest analog filter in the market.

For now, I'm settling on the EBS BassIQ. Analog, warm, sounds great (on their site anyway) and well built. Pricey, but a safe bet, as far as I can tell.
Only question: how long will I be able to resist getting the DOD pedal anyway
*sigh*
Thanks, y'all, and say hello to your mama.

Oh, mom says "Hi". | Glad to hear about the EBS. Do you use the Hi-Q setting ? That's the thing that got me finally decided.
Cool about mom :-)

Maybe I just have an extremely similar setup to their recording gear but when I plugged in my BassIQ I was like "Wow, that's exactly what it sounded like on the website!" I love mine. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
