DOD FX72 Bass Stereo Flanger

Just wanted to say that I just picked this up from another TB'r at a great price, and am VERY impressed with it.

I was looking for a Flanger after trying my guitarist's Boss BF-2B Bass Flanger. I really loved the sound of that one, but found that, for me at least, the sweet spot was with all knobs at 1:00 (another TB'r somewhere had said that, so that's where I started and loved it), and I really didn't like the sound as much at any other settings.

The DOD really seems to sound great at vitrually ANY setting, and seems much more versatile overall than the Boss. Again, just my opinion, the Boss can make a lot of different sounds, but most were not pleasing to my ear, with my gear. I guess that's it, the DOD just sounds 'pleasing' or sweet and smooth, even with the most dramatic flanger sounds. It does not lose ANY low end that I could tell, allows your original tone to shine through, and is just all around great!!!

I had been concerned about the bypass (read some negative comments about it), but to me it sounds very clean and clear and does not 'suck' my tone (which to me means that it does not have a negative effect on the particular frequencies I like, your milage may vary).

I think it's here to stay.....Just thought I'd share...

BTW, if anyone cares, my favorite setting so far is:

Delay - Dimed
Speed - Noon
Width - Dimed
Regen - 9:00

Right there with you on the FX72, Blast - I picked one up here for a great price as well (in order to keep my vintage MXR M117 at home ).

Those 4 knobs provide ALOT of options, and I have yet to really explore their full potential. I've mostly used it at fairly extreme settings (not the speed knob, though....), and it sounds great there, too.

I'll give your fave settings a try and see what I get.

Yeah, I found one of these at a local pawn shop years ago and have been happy ever since. I can't see there being a better flanger for the price. I'm goin to the basement/lab to paly with said recommended settings....

Thought I'd update this with a pic of the settings I've settled on... This pedal is even very 'touch-sensitive' like a good OD can be. I can kick it on and play softly for a slight chorus and when I dig in, or play at an angle (I play pickstyle so if I attack the string at an angle I can get a bit of a scratchy sound) it really picks up on the upper harmonics and gets very aggressive and 'swooshy'.

Still love this pedal and don't expect it will ever leave my board!

you know what? I bought this pedal used in '98 (while I was in USA for business) for something like 40 usd; I actually rarely or never used it, since we play straight jazz music; so mostly no effects at all. Period. Now, I have a box full of pedals that unvariably I never use.

Today we're stuck in the house with one meter of snow that blocked everybody and everything; so I started fumbling in the forgotten things box. I have a Trace Elliot dual compressor (don't use anymore at all) a Morley wah (I might throw in occasionally. Maybe); an Ibanez BC10 chorus that is plain horrible: it sounds as if the bass voice comes from... "a bottle". Forget about it. Then I also have a weird DOD Meat Box FX32 that I still have to figure out after 15 years that I own it (flank, rump, meat ???) and a couple of volume pedals (never use).

Then I re-discovered this FGX72 flanger thing: since my ears never fail me, I'm still asking myself "where is the catch?" I mean: how is it possible that this little pedal sounds so... good, juicy and flexible? Lots of usable sounds. I will put it into my gig bag from now on; even in jazz music a little "sound expansion" for the bass can be welcomed...

So I started researching on TB and found this post...

Amen, it's a great pedal!
My setting is Delay at noon, Speed at 13h, Width almost at max, and Regen almost at 3h.

i bought this flanger and the FX62 bass chorus waaaaay back in 88? maybe. the chorus has never really left my board, but the flanger stopped working for some reason recently?! the led stays on dim and no effect comes from the pedal..
I LOVE this pedal and plan on taking it apart see if theres any obvious clues. Anyone got any ideas?
