DOD Gonkulator trim pot

Does anyone know what the trim pot in the Gonkulator does?

There are four 100K potentiometers [Heave (Out Level), Gunk (Gain), Smear (Ring Level) and Suck (Dist. Level)] and one 50K - Tone (Null).

This is the response I got from the DOD help:

"It adjusts the ratio of the filter that makes the effect."

Can anyone expand upon "the ratio"?
That seems to be one of the two important parts.
