Are they pretty much all like this? If so, how difficult/expensive would it be to mod(or have it done?

edit: i sold my bf-3 to be able to buy the dod flanger which is said to be a lot better and organic sounding, now am sitting here wondering why i didnt post this thread earlier! FACEPALM MOMENT! or better still i shouldnt have asked after everything is almost done! anyway but i think if the flanger turns out to be real good i wouldn't mind the bypass if its not terribly bad. probably i should start looking for that small silver 50$ true bypass looper i read about here?

As far as modding, it depends on the pedal. Some of them have room for another switching system, some do not. For ones that have the room, it is not difficult to DIY; I have no idea about cost to have it done. |

If you use a die cast car like a hot wheel or some other piece of mountable metal channel, you can fit the switch in that. I did it a while back with a FX53. I did a pretty crappy job because I drilled for the switch before realizing it wasn't going to fit, then came up with the plan for the car. If you plan ahead you could probably do a much better job than me. |

It also had a boost mode at the top of its' gain range that really brought out its' nasty. In a mix it disappeared faster than you can say, 'Holy crap where did that go?!' I intended to mod it for more low end but I got impatient and traded it and a dano pedal for a SansAmp TriAC.
TriAC is also a really nice sounding pedal, but not good enough to displace my Muff'n and too big to justify being on my board. I'm starting to believe that my overdrive pedal may be like others fuzz pedal. I'll be damned if I'm ever going to just like one.
From about 17 seconds to 34 seconds of this clip I have the Micro Qtron in HP mode going into the fx53. The first part has it blended with the HOG.

There is a specific wiring method for ins, outs, and to get your LED to indicate status. The DOD has a momentary switch that enables/ bypasses the effect. You can remove that completely and safe off the wiring as the pedal powers up in the on position. I'll get into more of the details later, but I gotta go now. |

Worst case scenario, you could build a TBP looper that you could run to and from your DOD pedals. Here's an article that goes into TBP loops. If you want to mod the specific pedal, I would suggest taking pics of the guts and posting them. It will be easier to identify parts that need changed.
Good Luck.
