Does the Aguilar Tone Hammer compress (plus a power question)?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I recently swapped my sansamp bddi for boss eq and chorus pedals, but now I'm wanting to go back to an active DI (because I bought a wee lightweight amp with no output socket!).

I'm really liking the idea of a Tone Hammer (sounds great in youtube reviews), but I've got a couple of questions:

1. The sansamp had a certain degree of 'unofficial' compression (which I liked) - does the Tone Hammer do that too?
2. Does anyone have a solution for powering the 18v tone hammer along with a 9v tuner pedal without needing 2 different power supplies?

I don't have one, but I imagine it will compress very slightly when the AGS is engaged, as all overdrive pedals compress the signal to some degree. But it will probably be less than the Sansamp, which may be designed to emulate the extra compression you get from driving a speaker cab for example.

You can double the 9v to 18v using a Diago 18v adaptor along with a cable to plug into the tuner. Some tuner pedals have a max rated current draw on the output though so check the Tone Hammer won't exceed this (and it will likely draw double the mA from a converted 9v source as it will from a regular 18v supply).

you are spot on really with the whole post but the issue I'm having is actually getting one of these things. I've emailed Diago a few times and everytime they just tell me that they arent in stock and they will email me when they come back in.

I sold mine on BC to someone who I belive is now using it with a Tonehammer. There's the Godlyke Power Pump as an alternative, but they are hard to find also!
