Does anyone do a russian muff clone like this?

Sign in to disble this ad
At the moment I'm gasing for a fuzz, I absolutely love the sound of the ehx russian made big muff (the black one) but I really don't like the size. I'm going to get a pedaltrain mini soon so I want something that will fit on that.

So the question is, are there any companies who make a russian muff clone(it must have the same or VERY similar tone), tailored for bass(or, even better a blend knob) and something thats roughly the size of an EHX XO unit.

Recomend away.

EDIT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ucC_nHTRTk

Thats the sound I'm after^

You could get Ryan at Fuzzrocious to build you a GGG kit to Russian specs: http://www.myspace.com/fuzzrociouspedals or you could build one yourself: http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/index.php

The pedal would be smaller than the EHX XO box size.

Another thing I forgot to mention, would he be able to make one that works with active pickups?

My bass is an Ibanez ATK300

Big Muffs don't have problems with active basses to my knowledge. Mine works fine.

I was going to get a Mail Order Muff from Ryan but instead got a Munch the Muff'n, his triangle muff. I like it much better than I would the Russian, so you definitely want to listen to the sound clips before you make your order.

I've just watched the clip of it on his myspace, it seems too heavy for the tone I'm after, I need something smoother

I thought the Russian was quite heavy - if you want smooth, maybe you should try the Bass Big Muff? Plus that clip might have had the gain turned right up, all muffs get smoother when you turn down the sustain control.

If you want smooth, then you'll probably want germanium diodes on at least one of the clipping stages.
