I recently bought one like this... http://www.bbesound.com/products/sto...pto-stomp.aspx
Does the threshhold knob do anything at all? I just messed around with the knob and for the life of me I couldn't hear any difference (I slapped and popped like a maniac).

A comp like that with only a few controls is subject to the input level going into it. Are you using an active Bass? Or any pedals before the compressor, (particularly with gain stages). Try reducing the input signal.
It could be that the signal coming in is so hot that even with the threshold all the way up, the effect is 'full on". Or the opposite, if you've got really weak pick ups, even with the threshold all the way down, no compression is happening. |

Well, the threshold knob works fine. I was testing with a bass with a weak signal, so the compressor never kicked in
There is a DIFFERENCE between this new version and the old one. The old version sometimes produced faint warbling background noise. I've owned 2 and both produced exactly the same noise. The new one is dead silent even with the threshold knob set to the max.

I experienced that with my old Opto which I got rid of because of that "feature."
Thanx,

| Exactly!
When I got my 1st one, I thought it was defective. I exchanged it for another. The same noise. I read somewhere that the new version didn't suffer from it. That's why I bought a new version. Dead silent and very happy.
BTW, to me the new version looks better on a black pedal board than the old one. Its antique yellow color doesn't stand out.
The new version still has a retina-scorching bright blue LED, though. It was so bright that I painted it with a black permanent marker.

I read your review after I had purchased the Opto, which was a year and a half ago. It just confirmed my suspicions, otherwise I might have traded it in for another one!
Many great reviews, by the way...Thanks!

Because my "old version" Opto Stomp has a a red/orange led, not blue, and I haven't noticed any "warbling"... I've had it for about 5 years I think. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
