Does this fuzz pedal exist?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey folks I'm looking for a new fuzz pedal because my little big muff is just not cutting it. I'm looking for a fuzz pedal that has a blend knob so I can blend the clean channel into it. I find with most fuzz pedals the fuzz is either on and aggressive or off. I have tried the zvex mastatron and the diamond fireburst as well as the little big muff I own. The zvex was the closest thing I found to having a warmer fuzz sound that isnt as aggressive as most fuzz pedals. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy the aggressive fuzz but I need both. Is there a pedal out there thats nice and big and warm? Maybe the zvex mammoth is better than the mastatron? Hope you guys can help.
Thanks
Pig

If you can get your hands on one, try a Prescription Electronics Depth Charge. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's definitely my personal favorite.

You definitely don't want the Mammoth (one trick pony, raspy and synthy) and it doesn't have a clean blend either. You could always try a Barge VB-Jr blender which will open you up to a whole range of pedals rather than just looking for the few that have a blend.

ive got an ehx bass big muff. it has a clean blend option that makes it so your dry signal comes through, but the volume knob adds the fuzz signal on top of it. i know that the pickle pie b and wounded paw attack goat fuzzes both have a clean blend that allows you to dial in the exact balance you want

my vote goes out to the chunk systems brown dog. it has a blend. extremely versatile. can do agressive, can do a warm touch of hair to your clean tone, can get gated and synthy.. its my #1 dirt pedal.

I never understood why you would want a little bit of fuzz.

I use this one that has a clean blend:

Very versatile, there's even three trim pots inside so you can tweak it to death...

1. It helps cut better in a band when it's blended with the dry signal.
2. Some fuzzes lose a lot of low end. With dry signal blended in you keep some of that.
3. When running a fuzz with other pedals it is helpful to have a blend as it opens up more sonic possibilities. I run several kinds of fuzzes on my board and each one reacts differently to the pedals run before it and affects each one of the pedals after it differently.
4. Fuzz by itself on bass is MOSTLY impractical in a band situation unless you are in a metal band, whereas a little bit of fuzz may just add some character without overpowering the overall sound of the band.

The least aggresive fuzz I've used is the Bass Big Muff because of how it's controls are set out and because its attuned to bass. They took some of the fire out of the muff to make this, but the result is a very versatile band-oriented fuzz pedal thats excellent for light fuzz to quite high gain fuzz (though not as ear ripping as other variants).

Do not get the Depth Charge for subtle or less aggressive. It's quite ripping always, even with the clean bend. Awesomely cool, but not what you are after.

I think the whole point of a Blend control is not so you can have "a little bit of fuzz" but rather so that you can have a RAGING PANTLOAD OF BRAINSEARING FUZZ

...in addition to your normal clean deep fat fullrange bass tone. Both. Simultaneously. You know: More flags. More fun.

I'm not going to say tech 21 XXL B, because a) it isn't a fuzz and b) others have given good options already

I always found that my clean signal mixed with fuzz is a very jarring and awful combo, but that may be because I have a fairly high-mid bright clean tone.

If you like the Muff sound, and have time to wait for one, the Wren & Cuff Pickle Pie 'B' is the best I've ever had.

If you're not bothered about the Muff sound but just want a versatile fuzz with plenty of EQ options and a clean blend, try the MXR Blowtorch.

The Blowtorch won't do insane-o-fuzz, but there's a lot of useful stuff it will do.

I think thats a very good explanation. Way back when I had a lot more trebly/high mid tone and I tried blended muff it sounded pretty **** because the contrast was ridiculous between clean and fuzz. Now I'm alot more low/low-mid bassed with a high-mid cut aswell. Sound like less of a ridiculous contrast because the higher frequencies are supplied by the pedal.

Another thing to overcome the levels of distortion is to feed an overdriven signal into a blended fuzz. Its my absolute favourite fuzz sound because you regain definition through blend in the 'clean' but its still crunchy and sustainy, rather than jarring and so obvisouly clean.
