Does this Kind of effect even exist???

I may be joining a new band soon and as it is currently constituted we have bass, guitar (only 1). and drums with a singer. It's all good with me cause after being in ska bands for years I am looking for a smaller group.

Seeing as we only have one guitarist I was debating picking up and overdrive to fill in some space when the guy takes his solos but I have never really been a fan of bass drive.

My question is had anyone ever heard of a pedal that will drone off the root notes of a bass leaving the actual bass tone unaltered but mimic the sound of a rhythm guitar in the background. I know this seem like a pipe dream but I am curious if anyone has heard if such an effect exists. And if not do you know of any od's that wouldn't turn my tone into a muddy mess?

What you're looking for is an Akai Unibass.
Unfortunately they're following the trend of the Deep Impact and getting more and more expensive.

There are a lot of options where it wont muddy your tone. Sanford and Sonny Bluebeard fuzz is one, most anything from Ryan at Fuzzrocious. Another option would be to find a blend pedal like a boss ls-2 so you can blend the original signal back in.

First, it sounds like you want a blender pedal regardless of what other effect(s) you use. The blender pedal lets you keep however much you'd like of your regular sound. In other words, it lets you blend the effects with your un-effected sound. I mainly use an Xotic Xblender but I also have a Radial Big Shot EFX Loop.

For mimic-ing the guitar sounds, you want some kind of octave pedal. I like the POG II, but the Akai Unibass that was mentioned, I've heard good things about. Fishman now makes such a pedal too, but it was not well reviewed here on TB.

Since most octave effect pedals have a blend or clean tone of some kind, a blender doesn't seem of much use in this case.

The fishman pedal sounds pretty close to the Unibass. It has its own clean blend.

Have you used the Fishman pedal and, if so, do you like it?

It's ok at what it does. It doesn't sound as good as an Unibass to me but it's an honest substitute.
I just think the price is insane.

Way huge swollen pickle fuzz gets you a great fuzzed out distorted sound keeping the low in your sound still.
