My 12 string has what is often refered ti as "stereo", though it really isn't, just really an output for each pickup. If that is more what you mean, yes it can be useful even with a single amp, at least in my case as I "process" and EQ each pickup seperately then recombine them using a custom mixer, then into my amp. |

If someone's using the left-right meaning without using separate amps for left and right, then they're doing it wrong.  |

| | | | Stereo can be excellent way to give a broader sound. Its most used by those using house PA for their sound. But I also found it nice for use with two 10" bass combos form mini stereo rig for bass, synths and guitar. I like a little bit of reverb to the ready for recording tone and running stereo helps it a little fullness wise. Stereo chorus would be other fave effect in the chain to do stereo on.
