Here's a guess on approximating it..

Try playing with a pick, picking up over the end of the fretboard, not by the pickups, with mids cut, and it sounds like some chorus or distortion. If you've got a fretless, better yet. And if you've got a 2 pickup bass, on the neck pickup. Just a guess!

ok i will try it. it sounds like a good idea.
i agree with everyone though. now you all mention it, it does sound like an upright
