Doug Wimbish Effects

Sign in to disble this ad
At 59 seconds on this video, Wimbish has a tone I've never heard a bass handle. There's a list of his pedals on his website but I can't figure out what pedals he's using to get it. The rest of his tones I can piece together, but I want the electric guitar tone he plays at 59 seconds - 1min 28 seconds

thanks

I'd say Digitech Whammy for starters. Some sort of delay and a lot of distortion too.

Don't forget that he's also working the tuning peg.

Best guess: Whammy + Sansamp GT-2 + Delay.

The key to how Doug is getting that tone is the false harmonics that he's using with the Digitech Whammy +1 to Pitch shift up 2 octaves, and subtle distortion.

at 1:37 he picks up a little jar of Jam. He always has it on his pedal board.

tryin to bring this back..

I don't have those pedals but still looking at getting one that will give me that cool guitar sound. Are they out there? He seems to only hit 1 pedal.

Btw, he is definitely not using false harmonics.....

I'm pretty sure that's a Digitech Whammy (IIRC the guitar version)

He is indeed using false harmonics during portions of the performance in that clip. And he's also incorporating the use of more than one pedal.

Man, I forgot how much I like Doug.IIRC, he was very much into using guitar effects pedals, since the bass ones were a little too subtle for him.

You can get a similar effect with the Line 6 M9/M13. Lots of fun.
