Drive pedals with Gallien Krueger 700RB II

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking into buying a drive or fuzz pedal to add some dirt and grit.
So far, Boss ODB-2 looks interesting.
Woolly Mammoth seems too muddy and, well, woolly.
RAT seems too harsh and trebly.

Does anyone use some drive/fuzz pedals with their GK and which sound good?
I'd like something that doesn't turn into complete mud in mix.

What about pedals like:
Catalinbread SFT
Big Muff

I guess drive pedals would be preferred over fuzz if I want more clarity.

I have a turbo tube screamer... and it's amazing! It's basically the regular version with an optional bass boost. I am leaning towards more fuzz now, so it's on the way out.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...
Get a Rusty Box! I have this head, and no surprise, it kills with a Rusty Box.

And I hate sounding like a broken record..but more people should really give the year4545 a chance for more conventional fuzz uses. It cuts, it slices, it dices, and it melts faces!

odb-2?...don't you mean an odb-3. anywho, that pedal would be good choice if you want a high-gained bass distortion pedal. the digitech bass driver would be another good choice. I plan to buy that pedal real soon. another great choice for adding dirt to your sound would be a voodoo lab sparkle drive. this is a tube-screamer like overdrive pedal with a clean blend.

IMO the ODB3 sucks. Tons of noise between notes. I've tried many fuzz/OD pedals and I seem to a found a winner with the MXR Blowtorch. It runs at 18V and seems to have lots of headroom. The best thing is when I'm not playing a note it's whisper quiet.
Oh, and I also run a GK 700RBII.

Just won an ebay auction for ODB3. For the price, it was too tempting. Can't wait for it to arrive so I can try out some filthy dirty riffs.

I use a Pickle Pie B, a B:assmaster, and a Geminidrive with mine. The Gemini is used to add a little dirt and edge to the tone, the b:assmaster I use as a synthy gated fuzz, and the pickle for be all end all doom. All of them sound really awesome, deep, tight, and cutting with the GK.

As a note I rub the boost at 2 or 3 o'clock on mine. EQ has a bump in low mids and bass, with a slight cut in treble. Presence is at 12 and the contour almost off.

Oh and also fwiw, I found that running my bass through this old echoplex that I'm borrowing (that I may see if I can just buy as its just being ruined in storage at my school), I get a slight compression and bump in the warmth department. I wouldn't call it a gain pedal, but the preamp sure does wonderful things to add depth and warmth to the signal. Running it and my assmaster was almost heaven yesterday. Running it and my pickle makes the pickle scream (with lots of feedback lol).
