Dunlop Crybaby Bass wah Problem

Sign in to disble this ad
I got a Dunlop Crybaby bass wah (White-105Q) from a friend. I liked it early on but recently I have been noticing that when I disengage (step off), the pedal kinda sticks a little for a second or 2 in WAH mode before the bypass mode comes back. I don't have a warranty and before I spend $50 to send it to Dunlop, I would like to see if it's something minor and easy I could fix. I am not great with electronics, can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

Well you're in luck because it's actually a simple fix. There is an internal trim pot, a little brown thing, that controls the delay for the turnoff of the effect. All you've got to do is take the bottom plate off the pedal and turn that trimpot down to zero, and the wah will switch off instantly when step off of it.

thanks for the reply, but I cannot find the trim pot. There doesnt seem to be anything that can be turned to 0 under the faceplate other than the Volume and Q knobs. I also read that these pedals were made with the delay, which annoys me, but whatever.

It's not a "knob" like you might be thinking of one. If I remember correctly, it's a hole, actually, that you may need to stick a small screwdriver in to turn; a standard trim pot. I don't know that any 105Q's have been made without it, so take another look.

Here's a picture from my website. (BassGuitarFX.com)

See that white jagged circle near the bottom? Turn that. I don't even think you need to take off the plate.... Just remove the battery cover and reach in there with your finger.

You're welcome.

You don't need an expert you're just turning the wrong trimpot. Maybe yours has the white jagged circle like in the picture, either way, that is where the trimpot you want to turn is located.

I had the same problem with mine...i have an earlier model that did not have an internal trim pot so i have to solder in a resistor to lower the delay time...mine is almost non existant now...

OK! Ignore the links, I screwed up, but the post right above is exactly what my problem is. I definitely do not have a trim pot. Thanks all of you for the help and quick responses!

Well i see that you had the same exact issue as me :-) He is what you do...at the bottom of the pedal (back off) there are three resistors...the middle on is the one you want...they look like little blocks. I went to radio shack and got one and soldered it in on top of it (basically just put the wires in where there was already solder)
Here is what i used

There is a great description about 3/4 of the way down the first page...hope this helps...it made it nicer to me

I don't know if anyone would be interested, but I think it would be VERY simple to mod the 105Q to use a switch like all the other crybabys. I was looking around inside mine the other day and it looks like they still have the hole where the switch would be drilled, just filled in with some black plastic thingy. Let me know if any of you are interested in the exact method to do this, I wouldn't mind looking into it fully if someone would benefit from it.
