Dunlop DC Brick Vs Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone tried both and come to a conclusion if there's any noticeable difference between the two? I also need something compatible with Ibanez Tone Lok pedals. I tried a search but DC is too short of a word Thanks in advance.

There is one massive difference: the outlets of the PPII are individually isolated, while the outlets on the Brick are not isolated. If any of your pedals take a reverse-polarity plug, with non-isolated outlets all of your pedals now have the common mixed up with the live signal line, resulting in the potential for noise or even total failure. So while it is possible to use non-isolated outlets with no problem, the percentage of instances of noise and/or failure is higher than I will tolerate on my board. So I use the PPII. But the Brick is a lot cheaper, which is its only redeeming quality. It's just a daisy-chain in a box, so most budget-minded pedal users buy the 1-Spot or similar daisy chain PS cable, as it does the exact same job as the Brick but takes up much less space on the pedalboard. Again though, the 1-Spots etc. do not have isolated outlets.

If you don't have any pedals that take reverse-polarity plugs, of if the ones you do have don't happen to dump noise into the signal path or cause your other pedals to shut down, then you're a lucky person.

Voodoo Labs wins hands down on everything except price - but I guess you get what you pay for.

Check out the BBE Supa Charger.
Isolated outputs like the pp2, but cheaper (check the 'bay).
I haven't tried it myself, but you can find some information here on the board...

I use all Ibanez Tone-Lok pedals, would this be an issue with the DC Brick?

The T-Rex Fuel Tank has a few isolated "blocks" of outputs (NOT individually isolated outputs...), and their limited-current 12VAC is only practical for a select few pedals (i.e., it won't power 9VAC pedals like the Whammy, or power-hungry 12VAC pedals like the EHX English Muff'n, etc.).

For what it offers, their other power bricks - the Fuel Tank Jr. and Juicy Lucy - are much better, but also much more specific in application.

You'll be fine - nothing unusual there.

But honestly, you'd be just as fine with a Visual Sound 1 Spot kit, and it'd cost 66 to 75% less.

Like the T-Rex Fuel Tank, the Dunlop DC Brick is built with their own line of pedals in mind. Case in point: the DC Brick has 18VDC outputs because they (MXR and Dunlop) are one of the few major manufacturers who requires 18VDC for several of their pedals.
