Yeah, I use the red germanium version. Not really a good pedal if you want to retain your low signal, but I absolutely love it. I use mine with a P-bass, and it really makes for an awesome sound, especially when paired with a Crybaby Bass (not the newer white one, the older black one). When it's by itself, it's really grindy, really fuzzy, but still fairly beefy in the low mids. Engage the wah, and it almost acts as an octave up pedal. It really gets into almost a Hendrix-esque range (though lower notes), with lots of screaming and more nasally crunch. I won't be getting rid of it anytime soon.

Hi, I used a fuzzface on bass a few times. Loaned one from a guitard.
I liked the sound of it with my p-bass, and svt-vr. It isn't bad at retaining the low end, and has that nice dirty-growly sound.
But in a band setting it disappeared in the mix, and sounded pretty much the same as my 'clean' tone.
So I gave it back and continued the search for my favorite fuzz (which I still haven't found)

I've been through a bunch, germanium and silicon. Not my favorite fuzz for bass. The old silver and green Sovtek Big Muff was the best fuzz for me at home, but was pillowy and indistinct onstage.

I have an original in my fuzz collection but it's not one of my favorites for bass. I do use a Cross Drive which is a hybrid between the Fuzz Face and an old Big Muff, talk about brown sound for bass, this is it!

You can mod them for bass, and they'll be pretty good, but things like the 90's RI Tonebender, Jumbo Tonebender (same circuit as the 90's RI), Civil War and Green Russian Muff I feel are better. They're all very close in circuit with a few differences here and there.

Also, if you're handy with a soldering iron, you can make some pretty cool bass fuzzes pretty easily.

Still, swapping the input, output, and bypass caps on the FF goes a long way toward making it more "bass friendly".

Thanks for your unput and suggestions. I have fond memories using a FF in the 60's

I'll look into your ideas.
