Dunlop wah - what the hell is THAT?!

Sign in to disble this ad
Please excuse me if this is the most naive question ever asked - I am, in fact, quite naive when it comes to most effects.

UPS just dropped off my newly purchased Dunlop wah pedal. I have not used a lot of wah pedals, so I'm not sure exactly what to expect from it, but I sure as hell didn't expect the white gunk that I found in the visible part of the gears. [See attached picture - I hope it comes through well enough to at least give you an idea.]

What the hell is that? Is there supposed to be some sort of lubricant / grease on it, or did something melt while it was sitting in the hot UPS truck?

Thanks much in advance.

Lubricant. Probably silicone based.

Mine came with some too. If there is WAY TOO much on it you could wipe it down with a paper towel. However, from your pic, I'd just leave it be.

Plug. Play. Enjoy.

Lubricant, yes. It does have moving parts after all.

It's just white grease used not only to lube the moving parts but as a moisture repellent. You can wipe the excess off but try not to take it ALL off. It's actually good stuff.

Thanks. Ya, there are some big excessive clumps that I'll wipe off, but I'll be sure to leave the rest.
