Dusting off my AX3000B

Sign in to disble this ad
i bought a Korg AX3000B about a year ago, noodled with it for a bit, then just stopped using it. I decided to dig it out from under my bed as its an expensive thing to just have sitting there doing nothing.

Thing is, i still dont get anything out of using it, mainly because i dont have much knowhow about which effects are good and the right times to use them.

I was just wondering if someone who knows about effects could give me some pointers on how to use them? (sounds a bit daft i know )

I used to have the AX300b for a while. It had some pretty cool sounds that I thought were quite usable. I used the onboard compressor and found it good for making things fuller sounding and more punchy. You don't really say what kind of music you're into or what kind of sounds you're after. The onboard filter can make some cool sounds. Les Claypool uses that unit for most of his envelope stuff. If you feed some OD or Distortion into the filter you can get some really wet synthy tones. You can also do some cool step-phasor sounds and wierd envelope controled pitch shifters once you learn how to get in and deep edit the patches. I would just ignore the presets and spend some time going through the different possibilites one at a time and listen to the ranges of the controls. You'll get a sense of what the building blocks are to work with. Then you could experiment with different combinations and settings.
