Ear Monitors

I am considering buying in-ear monitors and ditching the old wedge monitors we've been using on stage...
Anyone have good recommendations?

Wrong forum, unfortunately - you might want to try the "Miscellaneous" forum or even the "Recording Gear and Equipment" forum.

I've been looking into this too. I've decided to go with the Sennheiser EW 300 IEM G2 wireless system. It costs a little more than some of the other "low cost" systems (Shure, etc.) but its sound quality and durability apparently makes it worth the extra cash. BTW, I've found a really good price on this system -- contact me if you want details.

If you have the means and your band is onboard, you might also look into either an AVIOM or HearBack monitor mixing system. These systems use CAT-5 hubs and cables and personal mixers to allow each band member to mix his/her personal monitors. These systems, however add a considerable amount to the cost.

IMO there are too many advantages to in ear monitors to go any other way. Your hearing will be protected (as long as you use them at a safe listening level) and you will be able to hear everything much better than with floor wedges.

Good luck,

-- David
