Earth shaking overdrive?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys.

Just looking for some advice on pedals. I've currently got the ODB3 and have tried misc multi-fx overdrives but I still can't find the right type of overdrive. Looking for a huge sound, really bonecrushing & earth shaking! It's for sludge/doom/drone. Anyone have any advice or recommendations? Price-wise, hopefully $150 max, but in or around that would be ok.

Thanks!

If you're really looking for dark Overdrive (and not distortion or fuzz) the darkest, doomiest OD I've tried would be the BJE Blueberry but that's well above your price goal.

I'm not really thinking of any other "doomy/sludgy" overdrives.

Bear in mind that the Boss ODB-3 isn't really an overdrive per se.

There's a whole thread devoted to doom/sludge etc FX around here. You should find all the answers you need in there...

Not too sure if you'll be able to find just ONE earth-shaking pedal, otherwise, we'd probably all own it by now!

My guess would be to go with multiple pedals to dial up that type of sound. For example: my MXR Blowtorch + Sansamp VT bass together can get really dirty and mean (and pretty earth shaking as well) when dialed in properly. Also have had luck with a Sansamp VT and an Octave pedal of sorts.

Supercollider - tons of low end, gnarly mids and is the definition of awesome. Born for doomage.

Yeah, if he'd asked about doomy fuzz, this would be near the top of my list as well as the Devi Ever Cherry Pop and that Guttermouth fuzz that I forgot the name of.

I suggested the Supercollider because I wasn't sure if the OP knew the differences between fuzz/dist/od and it fits the description of what he was looking for... But if it is definitely overdrive you're after, check out the Catalinbread SFT - it's brand new so there's not many reviews or clips about yet, but there are some awesome videos of it on Youtube.

I would also recommend the Devi Ever Dark Boost. At lower gain settings it is just a boost, but when the gain is about 2:00 and up, it overdrives very nicely. She has discontinued it under her own line and it is now selling licensed through Fuzzhugger.
