Easy/Cheap way to go Effects->Headphones

My DD-20 is doing a fine job ATM, but I was wondering what other headphone setups are out there, that aren't multieffects, preferably 9V powered. More looking for something attached to a preamp pedal.

I know of the EBS MicroBass, but it is freaking expensive

Rolls PM-351 looks pretty good, takes stereo instrument level inputs, can blend with a mic and line in, and doubles as a stereo DI box. I was thinking of getting one for running my VT Bass into the SMMH so I could get all the stereo goodness from it!

Not that they're cheap, but there's also the Jacques Fat Burner and DHA VT1-EQ-Drive.

The DHA VT-1-EQ has a headphone out but it is 12v
Also the upcoming Electronix Submarine TMK may or may not have a headphone out Os hasn't confirmed either way.

Both are good suggestions, but unfortunately I can't get rolls stuff up here in canada

I did find something similar by ART: http://www.artproaudio.com/products....0&cat=13&id=67

But like the DHA it runs on 12V

I might try one more search on Google for something.... I dunno

Well I'm sure you could get the Rolls shipped from a US store. It has inputs designed for instruments (correct impendance and level) unlike the ART one, plus it can run on a 9-16v supply. You can also get cheap little headphone amps in sweet tins one eBay, not sure what they're like though!

Step 1: hook 2 4 ohm speakers rated to you amps wattage in series.
Step 2: hook them to your amp
Step 3: mount them on the sides of your head
Step 4: play
Step 5:?????
Step 6: PROFIT

LOL. other than trying to go with a preamp, that might just work

Anyways, I decided that instead of ****ing around with multiple units to get a headphone setup, I'd just be better off with the microbass:

"Traded" in my DD-20, and by traded I mean "Got in under the 30 day return policy and got full credit for it"

The DHA VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive will run at 9-12VDC

I got a Digitech Genesis 1 from Ebay dirt cheap - it's vastly underrated - it doesn't have a bass sim, but the blackface + 4x10 works great. Takes headphones, has a Line-In for CDs (play along!) stereo out & line out.

Works for me.

Interesting. Every tube pedal I've encountered (that's doesn't have an LED behind the tube kind of thing ) runs on 12V. And AC to boot.

Im also aware that the heaters at least, are meant to be run 12VAC. Care to share the secret?

Hehe. I do like the drive on the EBS, but I'm mostly just using it as a tone shaper.

Im not sure if the VT will stay for very long or if I'll be searching for another OD/Dist....

Couldn't you use something like a Vox AmPlug Bass? $49.00 USD

Instead of plugging-in at the instrument jack, just plug-in at the output from your effects chain?

Haven't tried but it seems like it should work.

Here's a link:

I definitely looked into those. 2 things really put me off (for now)

1) I can't find out if ANY of the AmPlugs are "clean". Like dry signal to the mixing desk clean. Since they are all based on an amp of some sort, I doubt they are.

2) Figuring that none of them are really clean, There aren't enough EQ options on them for what I'm trying to achieve.

That's not to say that I don't want to try some of them on bass Cool idea, but not quite what I was looking for.

Which is what I find really weird, I guess. Theres nothing even remotely like the MicroBass, but in the "budget" range of $. With everyone and their mother getting into playing an instrument, Im honestly surprised at this.

Yeah, I'm sure the AmPlug will color your tone a little. Anyway, you got my attention/curiosity going.

Here is another "ye old Google" pulled-up, an iGtr. It has effects and an amp section BUT if you look at the large pic it appears to let you bypass the tone coloring circuits.

I don't know....an interesting search though.

Found another by a company named Earwig.....they are in Quebec. Their headphone amp does not appear to have any effect or color controls, just a volume knob. Very affordable. Here is the link!

Lately I've been using my computer as a headphone amp. Also my Yamaha PB-1 preamp has a headphone out on it. Minus the rack and power-conditioner it came with I'd say it ran me about $100 usd. It's a multi-tasker too as I use it as part of my Pre/Poweramp rig.

That is pretty cool. And fairly reasonable

It's an old SS rackmount preamp.

I'm not sure if this is camera distortion, or if the rack got a little crushed in shipping but the rack really seems warped in this pic. I'm planning on getting a better power conditioner; replacing the poweramp with a lighter 2 space amp and moving down to a 4 space rack.

EDIT: The headphone output is all the way to the right of the preamp.

/amp discussion in FX forum.
