EBS BassIQ owners...

I'm wondering if I got a "bad" pedal...

Can you guys tell me if any of this is "normal"?

Firstly, it is distorted... almost every way I set it, I'm getting distortion as it envelopes. It definitely does not sound like it does on the EBS website or a few of the YouTube videos I've seen.

Also weird is that the red light dims whenever it "opens up" into the wah... it's almost how I would think it would act if a battery is dying. I play a note... the light dims.

Also... when I power it up, the light starts out bright and then immediately dims... my EBS OctaBass does not do this.

I've tried multiple cables... I've tried an alkaline battery at 8.9v, a lithium battery at 9.37v, plugged straight in to a Boss 9v adapter, and plugged into my Dunlop DC brick.

I've also tried 3 different basses... my active Zon Sonus, passive Fender Jazz, and my active Mike Lull.

It behaves the same under all conditions.

Either this pedal is totally NOT what I was looking for... or I just bought a defective unit. Any help will be much appreciated.

It looks like your pedal has an issue.
The bass IQ is very tolerant with input levels and hardly ever distorts.

Unfortunately, EBS has had a few cases of "spotty" QC, as evidenced by threads on this board in which others have complained of bad pedals.

I've owned two IQs and neither exhibited those issues.

I have one. I like it alot. I don't have the issues you explained. Its rather early in the morning here so I can't charge her up but I don't get any distortion.

Maybe you are using a setting that doesn't let the envelope to open. Try this setting:

- Threshold at 4 o'clock
- Attack at 8 o'clock
- Hi-Q Mode

Also, play it with your passive bass and use the pedal alone by the moment, do not combine it with others pedals. Tell me your results.
