EBS Grey Box Re-House

Sign in to disble this ad
Just got an older EBS OctaBass in a recent trade. It's kind of in a bad way, it is missing the bottom and there is a lot of noise coming from the normal volume pot, which leads me to believe that it needs replacing. I was thinking about re-housing this pedal in a different box and maybe even seeing if I could not modify it for TBP. There are a few problems though:

1.) How can I get the pcb out of the box? It looks like the pedal was assembled by setting the power adapter and in/out jacks, and then soldering the pcb onto them.

2.) Does anyone have any experience with these pedals, and/or know of a resource page where I could get a schematic?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've only ever worked on the black labels, but if they're the same construction then it is possible to get the board out. You've gotta undo the pots, the switch and the jacks and carefully wriggle it out. It can be done without desoldering on the black labels because I've done it. I have a vague recollection of having to slightly bend the terminals of the pots in order to achieve the angle needed to clear the DC jack from it's hole.

If you just wanna TB mod it, then you won't need the schematic at all. But, I have obtained schems from EBS for black labels after signing a non-disclosure contract - hence I would STRONGLY encourage you to also respect EBS's intellectual property rights.

Agreed. I'd definitely not be trying to take their pedals and build them at home. I just want to be able to use the pedal that I have here in my hands.

Yeah, sorry, I'm a bit sensitive to that kind of thing. I just don't want talkbass to become a meca for rip-off merchants, that's all. I like it here!

Agreed! I wouldn't want that to happen either. I've contacted EBS about it, and will go that route. Honestly, all I want is for this pedal to work.
