EBS Multi Comp Settings

Sign in to disble this ad
Just got mine about a week ago and have been playing with for a few hrs now so really just getting the hang with the settings. I dig in pretty hard on my strings so I was looking for something that would help keep volume spikes under control as well as fatten my tone (make it louder), but also tighten things up.

I am curious on what kind of settings people are using, I have been running everything pretty much at 50% for both the knobs but I am getting a bit of distortion if I push the gain up any more then that.

Is there a "secret" setting that most people are using to get a clean simple effect for tightening up my sound?

BTW I have been running in tube synth mode as well as the middle setting which I believe is "normal" and I see a slight diference but seems like its amplifying my input signal even more.

I play with warwick basses both 4/5 strings, with active pups so I also keep the active setting on as well.

I am using comp/limiter about 2 o'clock gain about 8:30-9 o'clock
and mostly in normal not the the multiband position, sometimes with the tube position the switch and I am getting a very good result with this (new) unit. No distort at all and handling the low B very very well! I had the Demeter Compulator before and that distorted my tone on a more compressed setup, and even low trim setup could not handle my active Spector6 and MM Stingray5. (I had the rackmount dbx166xl, and the boss bass limiter, BBE optocomp and aphex punchfactor, and finally I am very happy with this EBS multicomp.
Hope you will find your setup with it! I am about to order more EBS pedals.

With all my basses, I use the EBS MultiComp in:
- TubeSim Mode
- Comp pot between 2:00 and 3:00
- Gain pot between 9:00 and 10:00

I use ah high comp level 'cause I've to compress the very low subbass waves generated by the Meatball.

You're probably getting distortion from your amp or the next pedal in the chain. You should set the gain so that the volume is about the same with the pedal on and off, which should be around 9 o'clock or lower on that pedal.

Where in the chain do most of you guys have your compressor?

I typically do the following:

bass->envelope filter->boss overdrive->ebs multicomp
