EBS Multicomp "Active" Strangeness???

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys,

so i finally found a stompbox compressor that wont clip w/ my aggressive sadowsky settings: the multicomp!

but now, i was wondering, when i flip on the "active" pad, the signal seems to be louder rather than quieter. usually, when i hit a pad button, the signal is usually attenuated, and yet this is reverse.

minor quirk, cause the pedal works great, but was just wondering why this is?

Beats me. I observed the exact same thing, and noted in my review that it made distortion and noise issues worse instead of better.

I may be wrong here, so please feel free to correct.
I believe the “active” switch does not attenuate the signal; it raises the threshold of the compression by a set amount.
I find to get the compressor to really kick in without adjusting the internal pots too much, I need to leave it in “passive”.

This is with my Roscoe (Bart’s) and my Warwick (EMG’s).

Check to see if the LED is registering when you are in “active” mode (light gets brighter as you pass the threshold) that will tell.
