I just bought an EBS Multicomp and was wondering where to put it, up front or in the loop. I play through a GK 1001 RB. I am looking for the compressor to simply even out my notes a bit. Thanks |

Bass -> Planet Waves C04 Chromatic Tuner -> Diamond Boost / EQ -> EBS BassIQ -> EBS MultiComp -> EBS MultiDrive -> Radial Big Shot Effects Loop ->Amp.
Loop 1 = EHX Bass Big Muff Pi -> EHX Micro POG -> EBS UniChorus -> EHX Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai.
Loop 2 = EBS WahOne Bass Wah.
I use Fender passive basses and prefer the Multiband setting, with Comp at 2 o'clock and gain at 10:30-ish. Pretty much what is in the manual but I experimented too and that's what works best for me. Works great for evening everything out in a loud band mix ... high notes sing, low notes are well defined without the overly loud "boom" ... in a word, "balanced".

Sorry if I missed it. If you dont want to help me, than please stop. No disrespect, but your frustrating me. |

I used to put it into the loop, but the signal is more "fixed" level from the bass, than from the preamp, since it sepends on the gain setting, and the EQ too.. so I like it before the amp better.
I set the pots where I like, and it always sounds the same this way, no matter, how I set the gain, or what amp I'm using, if I get another backline.

| | | Fourth link from the top of http://www.ovnilab.com/faq.shtml:
How to use the effects loop of your amp
I quote:
"Generally speaking, pedals are meant to go between your instrument and the main input of your amp, while rackmount units are meant to go in an effects loop, or between a preamp and a power amp..."
That's the first paragraph alone. Chillax you both. |

Bass->EBS->Amp Input. This is what it is designed for. Don't use the loop, that's just my opinion and i've found works best.
* I use Tubesim setting, comp 2 o'clock, gain 12 o'clock, passive switch set to 'out' with my passive fender jazz (i've got custom shop 60's pickups which are a bit hotter than standard and it works fine with passive switch set to 'out').
This provides me with a slightly noticeable compression, with the tubesim effect colouring my tone just enough to make it sparkle . Also i find at this setting despite the low ratio that you get quite a good dose of peak taming. |
