EBS MultiDrive for VT Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
A guy has a VT Bass that he wants to trade for my EBS. Is it worth it? I like the EBS, but it sounds a little too harsh for me really, if you know what I mean. It's kind of like when I was a kid and I Pawned my beloved yellow MXR and later replaced it with a DOD Distortion pedal. Those DOD's did not do warm tones. It all sounded like a saw blade.

Thoughts or opinions?

ya, the multidrive is a lot like a rat pedal to me. that is, if what i hear about the multidrive and the drive circuit in the ebs microbass 2 being the same is true. you have to like ampeg tones, but the vt is generally much milder. you can get pretty wild distortion out of it, but nothing like the multidrive where that's about all you can get.

sometimes, though, i love the sound of that harsh distortion. wish i could find a way to use it in my gigs.

I've used both and found the multidrive VERY good for mild OD, while I thought the VT bass was incurably clanky with way too many highs and very little useable range on several of the controls. If the multidrive had a tone control, I might have kept mine
