EBS Octabass

Hi Y'all,

I'm getting the impression that out of the analog octave pedals out there that the EBS Octabass is a strong contender for best low end tracking (with possible exception of the FOXROX OCTRON).
What do you think ???

I understand it is a lot different sound than the OC-2 or MXR which i think both sound great....if not played below a C.

So, lend me your thoughts peeps ! Is the Octabass any good ?

Sounds pretty cool here:

IMHO, the Octabass sounds closer to the OC-2 than the MXR. The MXR and EBS track equally well and both track lower than the OC-2. You want the newer Octabass with the three way switch.

Thanks Cyber

Do you think the OCtabass tracks better than the MXR ?
What is your preference out of the two ?

The EBS and MXR both track to a G on the E string. You may be able to squeeze out an F#, but don't count on it. My personal preference is for the EBS. I like the big pillowy bottom it has in "Low" mode. If I'm playing some higher notes, then the Mid position works better with more articulation.

Actually, on higher notes I think the EBS tracks more accurately. So I'll have to give a nod to the EBS.

Thanks so much guys. I was hoping you would say that.
I think the EBS Octabass will sit nicely after my Multicomp compressor and before my Multidrive

Compressor first in chain, then octabass ? Is that the usual chain to help with tracking ???
Before the comp wouldnt wouldnt help would it as the octave process would have already started before it hits the compressor...???

I run my Octabass first in the chain and then into the MultiComp. Tracking is great, stable, solid.

Wouldnt it be a better idea to run the compressor first to even out the dynamics before it hits the octave ????
WOuldnt compressor after octave create a bit of muddiness ?

Every octaver I've used tracks best when it's first in the chain. Easy enough to experiment and see what works for you though.

Yes, in general it would work better for long sustained notes. I don't seem to have any issues with the EBS so I run it first in the chain so that exactly what I'm playing is fed into the octave, no compression artifacts or anything.

I'm using a Microbass II and a Multicomp, so I really do like EBS, but still I went for the Aguilar Octamizer. It tracks great, gets the deep smooth octave like the octabass, but can also give much more edgier synthy octave.
Both are great octavers, but I feel the Octamizer is more versatile.
