EBS Pedals: Do others find them noisy?

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently bought an EBS ValveDrive to add some fat, warm tube sound to my rig. Lots of hissssss, hummmm, and static. The tone behind all that noise is very nice. But it's also kind of nice to turn it off and lose all that noise. Do others find EBS pedals to be noisy? Is it just mine? Any troubleshooting ideas?

Do you have any high gain effects before it in the chain?

No. I hooked it up by itself (not as part of my pedal board) and used my passive P Bass

Is it equally noisy at every setting? What kind of electric environment are you using it in? Are you used to tube amps/effects at all?

yea, noise at all settings except off. I had an Ampeg SVT 3 and I currently have an SWR Baby Blue and a Genz Shuttle 6.0 which are all tube pre-amps. The SWR BB is a little noisy but also needs to be serviced. The Genz is new and is quieter than a whisper. The SVT 3 was quiet too. But I don't have any other tube effects.

I don't remember the ValveDrive being noisy in the music store so maybe I got a bad one?

thanks. Maybe it is a tube. It's less than a week old! I've contacted EBS. We'll see if they can troublesoot or tell me it's normal.

thank you for the feedback

I had a Valve Drive and sold it. The tone didn't really fit my band, but on top of that I did find it to be really noisy when activated. I have the MultiDrive and Wah One now and both are very quiet and sound great.

I played an EBS ValveDrive about 3 or 4 months ago, and come to think of it actually I did find it a little noisy...not outrageously bad, but it's definitely there in the background - in a band situation, it might be one of those things where it's never really an issue when used live but for recording (especially direct) it might be.

i own 4: valvedrive, multicomp, octabass, bassiq, and they're all quiet.

but admittedly, i went thru 2 valvedrives cause there were rather shoddily built.

I've had owned or tried a number of EBS pedals though none of them were the ValveDrive (Bass IQ, Octabass, Multidrive, Unichorus and Multicomp) and they were all very quiet.

If it's not a tube problem, you may have a lemon.

I really think you have a faulty Valve Drive or the tube is bad. It shouldn't be adding noise like that...

Do the footswitches make noise as you operate them or even rotate the shafts?
