Are EBS pedals worth the money

Sign in to disble this ad
Im looking for a new better set of pedals than my pretty much all boss pedalboard. I was wondering if the ebs pedals are worth the money.

I don't know about all EBS pedals, but my ValveDrive sure was worth the money- my most used pedal by far.

I use the ValveDrive 100% of the time when I am playing a passive bass. Great pedal, although it's really a pre-amp rather than an effect (IMO).

I like the EBS Multicompressor and use it whenever I use effects. The Unichorus and Dynaverb are good too.

I had their Octave pedal but sold it in favor of a POG-2. I did not think the EBS Octave pedal was great. I also have their Bass IQ envelope filter and it is OK but I think there are better ones out there.

So I would recommend the first four I mentioned, but not the last two. Obviously I like EBS gear generally. I would like to try their new phaser as well.

They're definitely worth the money you pay for them used!
(And they're easy to find on here.)

At the risk of being unpopular (GASP) I'm going to have to say no, at least not brand new.

I've tried both the Bass IQ and the much lauded Multi-Comp, and was underwhelmed by both of them. I know tons of people here love the Multi-Comp, but compared to my modded CS-3, it had more background noise.

The Bass IQ was just "meh." Nothing special for me.

Of course, this is all just my opinion. Never tried the Multi-Drive. I think the first two pedals I tried soured my opinion of EBS.

Just my 2¢.

I think they're worth it in terms of sound quality, but I've seen and heard of too many instances where they "went bad" over time. And they are difficult to repair (the non-Valvedrive small ones).

TBH I've been considering downgrading their compressor out of my "top picks" list.

I guess that depends on what kind of money you've got to spend. I have the MultiComp and the UniChorus, and love them both. The MultiComp is on all the time, and the UniChorus is my favorite effect on my pedalboard... the chorus is thick and syrupy, but it doesn't tamper with your low frequency output in the least.

I use and recommend the MultiComp, MultiDrive, BassIQ, and DynaVerb.

The MultiComp and MultiDrive are amazing. I have never regreted a single cent spent on either, even considered purchasing two of each.

The DynaVerb is ridiculously expensive for very limited features. I regularly debate if it was worth it, and what can replace it. Compared to the Hardwire reverb which is $100 cheaper with more features, the DynaVerb has superior sound quality so it stays.

The BassIQ is ok, but not great. I do like it's simplicity compared to other auto wahs. It can do the always open envelope sound like a DOD fx25. Relating to the OP's value question, you can get more versatility and better sounds from a 3Leaf at the same cost.

The OctaBass sounds and tracks poorly, which explains why so many are for sale in the classifieds for cheap. Even saw a EBay listing where one was thrown as a 'free gift'.

What is it you are hoping for? What is your current gear NOT doing for you?

I have their tremolo. Great sound and quite versatile. Doesn't have a tap tempo, but it's not required for my use. I'd say it was definitely worth it.

The Valve Drive is simply the best mild to moderate o/d pedal I've ever personally stomped, and I've stomped more than my fair share.

Did a similar thing but it was an original POG. Very different pedals, but much preferred the EBS myself. You can hear a POG a mile away and I found the latency too hard to deal with. Sold it and got an EHX Octave Multiplexor which is dirty and synthy, rather than smooth and subtle like the EBS. The EBS tracked quite well, probably better than the EHX.

Got my EBS octaver for a good price used, but even at the new price I think it's a good deal if that's the sound you want. Would love to check out the multidrive but EBS is pretty rare in NZ.

My 3 EBS pedals sounded great...but I think they're a bit expensive. But then again, I think most musical equipments are overpriced.

not to change subjects, but as indicated I am less than crazy about the Bass IQ even though I like most EBS pedals and love the ValveDrive. But can anyone A-B for me in words the Bass IQ vs. the Groove Regulator? The GR looks/sounds pretty cool, it may be more what I want in an envelope.

I keep my Multidrive on all the time when playing my passive Jazz or Precision--sounds fantastic to my ears and definitely worth the money to me. I use the Groove Regulator envelope filter and recommend it highly, though I never got a chance to try a Bass IQ.
