EBS Tubism, what does it actually do?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,
I have a EBS multicomp pedal and an EBS HD350 amp. I'm not super sharp as far as amplification and effects go.Compression ( especially two band) really cofuses me and I have read some of the threads about it.Can you guys help me understand this?
On the EBS Multicomp pedal there's a setting called Tubism. What does it actually do.Is it a simulation of a tube compressor or is it designed to make the bass amp that it is plugged into sound like a tube amp? Does it successfully simulate a tube amp ? How is it different from the Drive control on EBS amps? I guess the drive control adds distortion but so do tubes. Would the two settings enhance each other?
The EBS amp also has a compressor in it.Does that make my multicomp pedal redundant?
I've been fiddling with different settings but so far I have not really come up with anything significantly better than my unprocessed sound.By the way I'm kind of into the Marcus Miller Alex Al sound. So warmth punch and clarity are all important to me.
Occasionally I play melodies to songs which I sometimes slap.So I want them to stand out without killing anyones eardrums.
I'm trying to decide if it's enought to use the onboard compressor on the HD 350 and if I should sell the Multicomp and get a reverb pedal instead.
What do you guys think?

Hi, the FAQ linked in my sig should answer all of your questions about compression, including dual-band.

As far as the tubesim, it is just a slight tone coloration that is intended to emulate some of the qualities of a clean tube amp. It is slightly "fatter" and more mids-present than the other settings. It is a good tone, and people say it's fairly accurate in terms of sounding tubey, but it's very very subtle.

"Drive" usually implies a certain amount of grit or dirt in the tone, anywhere from a light "wooly" tone to heavy distortion. The Multicomp does not include that.

Whether it's redundant is something only you can decide. There's literally no way anyone else can guide you on that.
