EBS Unichorus or Analogman Mini Chorus

Sign in to disble this ad
So its come to this. I want one or the other. Help me decide!

EBS - UniChorus

Analog Man - Mini Chorus w/fixed Deep setting and Mix knob

I've read through the various posts on these, but would like a bit more feedback on the two, especially compared to each other.

Thanks!

I've owned both, and to me the Analog was a lot better. Didn't cut the lows, and just overall sounded better.

I wouldn't get the mix knob though. Then you just have to worry about bumping it. It's already factory set at 50/50 blend of the dry and detuned/delayed signals, and if a chorus sound is what you want, why would you want the dry and altered signals at any other mix than 50/50? Anything else is just not going to sound as good.

I owned both. Analogman (mini with deep option and mix knob) sounded too beefy for my taste. And it did rise the volume when engaged (it seems, I'm the only one here who had such a problem). Excellent quality, just not my sound. EBS - I liked its sound character more, but it didn't cut through the mix very well. Tried to play with internal trimpot (mix), it did not help. If you like beefy, lush chorusing go for Analogman, if more subtle, transparent chorus effect then I recommend you to listen to TC Electronic SCF or Exar Moby Dick (my favourite chorus pedal).

Thanks! I'll check em out.

Anyone try the Analogman without the Deep setting? Maybe its less beefy?

I've tried it. It sounds a tad thin on bass. Deep setting is strongly recommended for bass (you can always still turn the depth down).

I feel like the "deep setting" title is a bit misleading given that it's actually a delay time switch. The "deep setting" is actually a longer delay time which equals to a more significant chorus effect, which helps explain the "lush" descriptor. The two shorter settings are going to give you a more subtle effect. There are a few chorus pedals out there with delay time controls (both maxon cs9 & cs550).

Interesting... so the 'Deep' setting isn't like a low pass filter or anything. Still, intriguing.

No, it is a delay time. But it gives you a thicker sound more appropriate for bass.

Thanks Mark, that makes sense... I think I see an Analogman Mini Chorus in my future... Since they seem to come up a lot, I may look to the classifieds...
