EBS UniChorus Distortion

So I had the unichorus and EHX Cathedral Reverb in my FX loop with a turbo tuner, micro pog, and swollen pickle before the preamp. I had adjusted the FX mix to 50% when I noticed there was a distorted sound (all the effects were off). So I started playing around with the pedal arrangements to isolate the sound.

When I had the unichorus in the fX loop and plugged straight into the preamp with the bass it was distorting the signal slightly but no other pedal did that. Then I moved the unichorus to before the pre amp by itself and then started adding pedals and it sounds fine.

Any ideas as to why the unichorus is distorting the signal in the FX loop and anyone else have this problem?

Hmmm, line level versus instrument level? Could that be the problem? Since the FX loop sends line level?
