EBS vs. EHX

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,

I would like to buy an octaver that I would like to use with a ProCo Turbo Rat.

Basically, I have two choices: either I would go with an EHX Octave Multiplexer or an EBS OctaBass.

First of all, I would like to know your recommendations between those two pedals.

Then, it would be awesome if anyone could share any experience of these pedals combined with an overdrive/distortion effect.

I mainly play with a drummer and I like the way Bob Weston & Kim Gordon sounds like.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Have a nice weekend!

Octave Multiplexer. Much cheaper and sounds great.

First off, I have never played through the EBS, however the EHX does not track very well. At least, I could not get the octave pedal to track nicely for me. This was a new unit, with a power supply, in a store, with a new bass.

I have a Boss OC-2. This one is a like or dislike pedal. I love it. It tracks way better than the EHX unit. The unit I tried may have been bad from the factory, but I steer clear of them now.

The EBS may be good. I don't know, but I would try and find an OC-2 to play with. The OC-3 can track chords, and has an OC-2 mode built it, but is expensive. The OC-2 has three knobs. They are volume for the three octaves: Dry, 1 down and 2 down.

I would suggest looking at more than 2 pedals to get the right sound you want.

Second... Stay as far away from ASHDOWN as possible. That is the worst octave pedal I have ever played.
