Eden WTDI - Switch Pops

Sign in to disble this ad
My wife gave me an Eden WTDI for Christmas. I love the tones I am getting out of it, however, there appears to be an issue.

When pressing the footswitch to bypass it (turning the light on and bypassing the effect), there is a pop sound. And it isn't a subtle one--it is pretty obvious. This only happens when bypassing it--if it is bypassed and I turn it on, there isn't a pop. It happens whether I am using my Sadowsky (active or passive), Fender P-bass (passive), or Fender ADJV (active). I tried turning it on and off several times (along with different cables), but it doesn't change in intensity and always happens when I switch it off. In addition, there appear to be grounding issues, but they are subtle and this could be because it increases the output when it is in the chain, on or off.

I have multiple true bypass pedals in my guitar rig, but none of them pop or make noise. I tried it with a headphone amp and through my bass combo (1x15"), and it was more noticeable with my combo, but present in both cases.

Anyone else experiencing this with the footswitch? Does this happen with both the 1/4" output and XLR output, or just the 1/4" output (which I can live with)? Should I exchange it or live with it? I play in an environment (1 to 2 times a week) where it the sound guys are particular about this kind of thing.

My chain will be pretty simple:
- At home: bass -> Korg Pitchblack -> Xotic RC Bass Booster (occasionally) -> WTDI -> Fender BXR200 (1x15" combo)
- Playing out: bass -> Korg Pitchblack -> WTDI -> PA

Any answers/comments/thoughts are appreciated...

I'm glad I saw your post. I was just going to order one. Issues like that would drive me nuts. I will just wait and see the replies. Thanks for posting that.

I agree, this is the second post I have seen about issues with this pedal; the other being noise. Was looking into a replacement for my MXR M80 as my DI but things like this are stearing me back to it.

Can anyone that has one of these confirm if this is normal, or is it defective?

Well, I sent back the old one, got a new one (that appears to be used), tested it again, and footswitch pop appears to be "normal" in this pedal. Since this is still within MusicianFriends 45 day return window, I am sending it back and I think I am done with this pedal.

While it sounds great, I plug direct into a PA when I play live and footswitch pop isn't acceptable to the sound guys--especially not this loud.
