Edit:
Post edited to be more specific.
Here is a pedal I am thinking of purchasing. Are these good, or are there better ones available for playing Funk?
This is the Bootsy Collins pedal: http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....al-?sku=150555
I am also interested in good fuzz and distortion pedals, if you know of some good ones I could check out and compare to one another.
Sorry if this has been posted before.
Thank you for your time.

But maybe an overdrive, EQ pedal of some sort, depending on the type of music you play. I find that my 'essential' pedal collection for the band im in consists of 2 fuzzes a compressor and a Tech 21 VTbass preamp - i also tend to chuck in 2 octave pedals, and then might throw in some more stuff, like an envelope filter, another fuzz, bass synth, envelope phaser ect depending on how much i wanna carry around

For me, my "core" pedals are: Fuzz, Filter, Whammy, Flanger, Octaver etc...totally subjective to the music that you are into playing. I don't consider a tuner pedal an "effect" per se, but I do have one of those on my board as well.
I also don't consider a D.I. an effect either, but you'll see lots of people with Sansamp BDDI, which adds some dirt. |

In that case...
I have been really into Funk since I got my bass, and I have been checking out this Funk pedal from Bootsy Collins. Is this thing a good pedal, or is there a better one for playing Funk?
I like Rock of all types as well, but I am not sure where to start with the rock type Bass pedals.

Also, when you say "funk pedal from Bootsy Collins" you may need to be a little more specific, as he's used quite a few filters over the years.
For rock type pedals you'll want to start looking at distortion/fuzz/OD and maaaaybe octave. |

I've seen simple clearance rack $35 pedals blow the pants off the several $100 boutique pedals that have supposedly been crafted by the hands of god himself.
A good place to start is the "Post your pedalboard" threads and see what things come up the most often, and ask about them. And you may be suprised by some of the "el cheapo" pedals that many of the "pro" people are using, including multi-effects.

| | I'm a tumbler, born under punches | | Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Northern California | | | If I were building a board for funk and a bit of rock I think the pedals I'd want would look like this (specific recommendation is parentheses):
Envelope Filter (Maxon AF-9, DOD FX25, Qtron)
Octave pedal (Boss OC-2, EBS Octabass, maybe the new MXR)
Fuzz (Little Big Muff, Subdecay Flying Tomato, Lovetone Big Cheese or clone)
Phaser (EHX Nano Small Stone)
Some others I'd consider:
Wah (Dunlop 105q, Ibanez Weeping Demon, Wilson Wah)
Overdrive (DOD 250, Badder Monkey, Blueberry)
maybe Delay (Boss DD-6, Guyatone MD-3, EHX SMMH) |

| | | | many pro's use multi-effect pedals and in your case, i'd with one. if not, the only thing you need is a tuner, everything else is subjective to the musician and the music |

The only reason I didn't buy it is because of the many complaints about build quality I've heard about Snarling Dogs.

The second Bawl buster i got (also second-hand) the LED's just didnt work alltogether.
in the end i just got a used Dunlop 105q basswah and just run fuzz into it when i want.

I also remember that the fuzz switch was in a bad place, or it was difficult to turn on. It's been about 2 years, so I can't remember clearly.

| | | | do not buy that pedal. poor build quality, heavy, big, annoying power supply placement, sub par sound quality, and mine broke very soon after i bought it. get a dunlop wah and a good fuzz and it will be miles ahead of the snarling dogs piece of garbage. imho of course | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
