Effect Advice

I'm new to the bass and would like to pick up some effects pedals to emulate some of my favorite bass sounds, those of bluesy rock bands of the sixties and seventies such as Hendrix's band or Black Sabbath. Any advice on what pedals are called for? Thanks a lot!

Fuzz!!!! You cant go wrong with Iron Ether, smallsond/BigSound, Fuzzrocious.
I think Frantone makes great stuff. Also for what you said there is an awesome pedal Full Custom Music Barnacle Fuzz. Ihad one and it nailed those bands you named.

A lot of those sounds were created with valve amps and big speaker cabs, 4x12's. 2x15's etc. No pedal will accurately reproduce those sounds. You can get close with emulation and you can get pedals to overdrive the sound but it won't sound like it.

My personal philosophy on pedals is to get a good sound without them and then get ones you like the sound of. This is creating sounds instead of trying to recreate them (with the wrong tools).

YMMV

A big muff is a good option. look on craigslist find a used black russian big muff or better yet get a green one. Stay away from the bass big muff it sucks the silver nyc muff is better then the bass big muff.

Are you playing in a band or just bedroom/basement jamming? What amp/cab are you using?
