if i could take only one to that desert island(with electricity)

and hula girls of course,i'd take my old DOD fuzz pedal, simple,,bass boost one side of the tone knob, treble boost the other, easy to EQ a nice spread across the strings, batterys last for nearly ever,,,havent used mine in over a month but it's not for sale.that and a good combo amp and a P bass, yeah!,,i'm ready for Bikini!,Beach Boys (and girls)i can do.

no there's tons of effects out there and i'm certain many have others but something about that DOD fuzz makes it so simple to have fun

Fuzz will take over.

Especially if it hangs out with its favorite friend, a self-oscillating delay:

(I know it's not a fuzz, but it's making fuzzy sounds)

I'm surprised no one has said compressor!!!!! Even if not in pedal form, that's probably one of my favorite tools with the bass. IT JUST SO HAPPENS THAT....MarkBass made a tube one in pedal form

Definitely fuzz... I'll also throw in the wah because a lot of players wouldn't be who they are without it. It also led to the creation of many other pedals modeled after its sound: autowah, phaser, envelope filter, etc.

Delay without a doubt, with that comes all the permutations available with it, flange, chorus, phase, harmonizers, reverbs and delays.

IMHO of course.

Remember that your VT is doing some compressing on its' own, esp once you start clipping/overdrive.

Long answer:
I love delays! I have two of them on my board. A Malekko Ekko 616, and a T-Rex Replica. I use them each individually and together. I love them!!! I have a sickness... I am actually considering a third. Perhaps the AnalogMan or the Wampler, oh! The Eventide looks nice as well!

Short answer:
Delay
