Effect pedal control via MIDI question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I've got several effects units that can be controlled via MIDI (DigiTech Whammy IV, Soundblox Bass Distortion Pro, Peavey Bass Fex rackmount unit), and I would really love to be able to create and edit patches for these FX directly on my laptop, then send control signals to the FX units from the laptop. I know this is possible, but I've found very little information so far online on how to do this--I don't know if I'm just searching in the wrong places or what, but if I could find a basic MIDI control signal editor that would allow me to communicate with these effects, that would be awesome. I have a Mac, and a M-Audio MidiSport 2x2 for the MIDI/USB bridge.

If it matters, the reason I'm looking to do this is that my band plays to a click track (to sync lighting/video/triggered sounds), so it would be great to be able to get some of my effects to run automatically for me. The guitarist already does this, but his setup is much simpler--he uses a Boss multiFX pedalboard that allows him to record MIDI-out directly from the pedalboard. My Soundblox and DigiTech pedals do not have MIDI-out or MIDI-through however, and I would really like to be able to edit these MIDI patches on my computer myself before sending the control signals to the pedals.

Any assistance or push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!
