I'm guessing one with the sensitivity set fairly low so only those popped notes really trigger it fully.
Sounds a bit like the old DOD 440 which I believe is what the Boomstick Bottom Feeder is based on. |

The pops are choked to within an inch... Definitely blended with a clean signal and, here's a thought, it might even be side-chained! That's how you win grammys, sonic! | or maybe they just double-tracked it, and cut/pasted the uneffected pops from the clean track into the filtered one.
